Here are tips for a loose block, stinging wire, broken activator/plate, AdvanSync screw, loose splint or a broken Invisalign.
Is a lock/bracket loose? If it doesn't bother you, you can leave it in place. If it does bother you, you can try to cut the wire yourself with nail scissors or clippers so that the brackets and possibly a stinging wire do not bother you. You do not have to go to the orthodontist on duty during the vacations because each orthodontist uses their own brand of brackets. Contact after the vacations to make an appointment.
Do you suffer from a stinging thread in your cheek? Have someone cut it as short as possible behind the last block. This can be done with nail scissors/clippers or clippers. Can't do this? Then put a ball of wax on it. If you run out of wax, you can also stick sugar-free gum on this.
Is your activator or your plate broken? If it doesn't hurt, you can continue to wear it. You may be able to smooth a sharp edge with a nail file. If wearing your braces does hurt, leave them off. And contact me for an appointment.
If an Invisalign aligner is broken (e.g., a crack in the material) you can continue to wear it, if there are no complaints of pain. Should this still cause symptoms, replace both aligners with the previous or next set.
If the screw is a little loose, you can try tightening it again with the Allen wrench you got from us. Note that you can't tighten the screw all the way; it has a little play in it. If the screw is tight, you're fine. If your AdvanSync is partially loose, or something is broken, it's best to take it out completely. This can be done with the allen wrench provided. Remove the AdvanSync from both sides. If you go to an orthodontist/dentist on duty, be sure to bring the Allen wrench as well. Make a new appointment with us anyway.
Is the splint behind your teeth loose? Try to make an appointment with your dentist to get it fixed as soon as possible. Make a new appointment with us.
